A kidnapping for ransom of a seven-year-old Chinese girl reunite retired Detective Sergeant Chad Belmontes and Homicide Detective Sergeant Bob Stanny in a new investigation on the Island of Oahu. When the parents of an abducted seven-year-old girl ask retired Detective Sergeant Chad Belmontes to find her, he is reluctant to become involved. But when they tell him their daughter is a diabetic and in need of medication, he agrees to do what he can-with the condition that the FBI and local police are also brought into the case. However, as a recent arrival in paradise Belmontes is at a loss where to begin. It is then that his wife (Cassie) uses her knowledge of Oahu, its people, and the support of her extended family to help him unravel the first knot of the puzzle. What he discovers is a revelation that shakes him to the core, and one that no one but Belmontes believes is possible.

A Reader This is the 3rd book by this author in which Chad Belmontes is the main character. Again the author has captured the difficult situation that Chad finds himself in being involved in a Law Enforcement operation when he is no longer a Law Enforcement Officer. Reluctant to become involved, and rejected by multiple Law Enforcement Agencies, he is non the less dragged into the investigation of a kidnapping. This is a good read and is of particular interest to those who either are, or have been, involved with Law Enforcement. Having read the first two books by this author would be preferred but not completely necessary as the novel is complete in itself. Good work Mr. Price looking forward to the next in this series.
A Reader Another good one: This is the third book in a series highlighting Detective Sergeant Chad Belmontes, now retired from the police, but still highly respected in law enforcement circles. In this case, Chad reluctantly gets involved in the kidnapping of a young girl who is diabetic and needs her daily medicine and close supervision for her ailment. The crime takes place on Oahu, an unfamiliar island and culture to him, but he agrees to get involved and gets the local police and the FBI on the investigation. His wife Cassie (a native islander) helps him to cope with the different ways of doing things, and overcoming confusion and uncertainty, his mind gets focused on rescuing the kidnapped child. I won't give away the ending but the tale is well worth the read and the few bucks it costs for the Kindle edition. This would be an excellent book to read during your next Hawaiian vacation. The book cover is just a reminder that paradise awaits your airport landing. Have a good adventure and mystery read - I am sure that you will enjoy Price's writing - the dialogue is right on!
A Reader Suspenseful Tale: I truly enjoyed this book. As usual, Price has written a compelling and suspenseful tale, vividly peopled and forcefully told. For the fans of his previous mystery novels, only one thing can be said: Magic Dragon will not disappoint you. It’s a terrific read from beginning to end. The third book in the Chad Belmontes series and they keep getting better. This setting is new, Hawaii, and the story is different. I would recommend you read the series from the start, Lair of the Dragon, The Dragon's Ghost and The Magic Dragon. I am waiting for the next Chad Belmontes book.
