Who's Who . . .
DETECTIVE SERGEANT CHAD BELMONTES Chad Belmontes is an old fashion cop. A good detective who solves cases through intuition and dogged determination. He’s even handed, but when circumstances require it, is not above meting out a little curb stone justice. He is a middle-aged, slightly out of shape man in his late forties. A man burdened by the tragic loss of a wife and child, who is going through the motions of doing his job while he struggles to move on with his life. Belmontes is introduced in Lair of the Dragon. A tired cop behind in his paperwork, who fakes a report that leads to murder. We meet him again in Dragon’s Ghost, now retired but still unable to stay out of trouble. Here he is suspected of committing a murder, and while the police are hunting him, he hunts for the real killer. CASSIE WONG Cassie Wong, early thirties, widowed, a native of Hawaii, and Belmontes’ love interest. She is a woman determined to stand by her man, and though she isn’t a cop, she plays an important role in bailing Belmontes out of trouble. HOMICIDE DETECTIVE SERGEANT BOB STANNY Bob Stanny, mid-fifties, widowed, very Irish, and Belmontes’ closest friend. Stanny sometimes plays the part of Belmontes' altar ego, and is always willing to go out on a limb for his best friend. LIEUTENANT JASON CAHILL Jason Cahill, mid-thirties, straight laced, overbearing, and Belmontes’ boss in Lair of the Dragon. Cahill has little respect for Belmontes, and the feeling is mutual. He appears again in Dragon’s Ghost as Stanny’s lieutenant, and a man determined to see Belmontes arrested for murder. DOCTOR HANK TANAKA Doctor Hank Tanaka, forty something, physician, deputy coroner, and forensic pathologist at the county morgue. Hank and Homicide Detective Sergeant Bob Stanny are close friends, so much so that Hank isn’t above doing a special favor for his good buddy—On or off, the job. PAPA SHENG Papa Sheng, mid-sixties, Chinatown restaurant owner, and Cassie Wong’s God Father. He plays a significant role in Lair of the Dragon, but only receives honorable mention in Dragon’s Ghost. However, he will be back in book three of the series. FORTUNE WONG Fortune Wong, mid-sixties, Cassie Wong’s mother, and a very classy lady. Fortune lives in Hawaii and has star billing in Lair of the Dragon. She didn’t find a role in Dragon's Ghost, but she is too nice a lady to be left out of book three of the series |
